Both Ely City and Soham Town Rangers were out of action last weekend as freezing temperatures disrupted the non-league football scene.

Ely were due to play Newmarket Town, who play on an artificial surface, in an Eastern Counties Premier Division derby on December 10.

But with around 75 minutes to kick-off, the Suffolk side postponed the game as part of their pitch remained frozen.

Soham’s clash with Ipswich Wanderers at Julius Martin Lane in the same division was also called off due to a frozen pitch.

A number of non-league fixtures in the region were postponed amid a severe cold weather alert issued by the Met Office last week.

Ely will look to climb into the league’s top 10 with victory at Wanderers on December 17, 3pm.

Meanwhile, Soham travel to Fakenham Town at the same time ahead of their Boxing Day clash (December 26) with the Robins at the Demcom Stadium, 11am kick-off.
