WITCHAM fell agonizingly short of victory once more at the weekend, coming up just seven runs short of victory against Somersham.
Opting to bowl first on a soggy track, Witcham made regular breakthroughs into the visiting line-up and soon cleaned up the innings for just 134. Tyler Phillips (3-34) and N Phillips (3-36) shared the bulk of the spoils for the home side.
Runs have been a growing problem for Witcham in recent weeks and so it proved again on this occasion as, aside from a few respectable scores from the top order, there was little of real substance and Witcham lost their last wicket for 127.
There was also bad news for Witcham in the 20-20 Walker Cup as they lost out by five wickets to Wilbraham.
Witcham posted 79 from their 20 overs to set the visitors a reasonable target of four an over. Despite taking five wickets however, Wilbraham knocked off their total with little more than an over to spare.
