OLYMPIC Javelin finalist Goldie Sayers will miss this summer’s SPAR European Championships with a hip injury, the governing body of athletics in the UK announced this week.
Sayers picked up the injury at the Aviva National Championships and European Trials last weekend where she retained her British title for a record eighth time.
“I am absolutely gutted to be missing Barcelona. It was a completely freak injury that I sustained in my second throw in Birmingham. Training had been going so well until this point and I really thought I could challenge for a medal at the Europeans.
“But I can’t dwell on what has happened, instead I will continue training and working whilst I’m in rehab with the aim of coming back for the Commonwealth Games in Delhi in October.”
