SOHAM Town Rangers had to settle for a point in their game with basement side Beaconsfield SYCOB on Tuesday.

Ian Benjamin’s men came into the match on the back of the 5-1 hammering of promotion hopefuls Aylesbury but failed to recreate their goalscoring form in a tough encounter with Beaconsfield.

The draw ensures the Greens eight-point cushion from the relegation zone remains in tact, with a home game against fellow-strugglers Atherstone next up on Saturday.

Soham’s best chances of the match came from midfield duo Michael Simpson and Deakan Napier but, with little between the two sides, there was little else to cheer for home fans.

It was a different story altogether on Saturday however, as a rampaging Soham side scored a comfortable victory over high flying Aylesbury.

Simpson opened the scoring for the Greens in the 12th minute as he applying the finishing touch to a half cleared corner and Luke Hipwell doubled the lead for Soham just 10 minutes later with a good finish on the angle.

Both sides exchanged chances in a remarkably open game before half-time gave the visitors chance to regroup.

Napier made the points all but safe for Soham in the 68th minute after collecting a cross and firing home, but nerves were soon on edge again after Danny Mead slotted home a penalty following a foul by Martin Bromwich.

Despite a late push from the home side, returning striker Richard Gammon and Scott Carter added two more goals in the final two minutes to put the result beyond doubt.
