Netball Ely Netball Club I 41 Hawks II 25
Ely finished off their campaign in Division 3 of the Cambridge and District Netball League with victory over Hawks, bagging them second place and a slot in the promotion playoffs.
Ely were without two of their normal team but Abbie Holgate and Alice Carter stepped into the breach admirably. Battling with the wind, Ely lead from the early stages and had gained a five-goal lead by half-time.
The shooting combination of Janice Quarrier and Anita Reidy were once again in fine form, ensuring Ely put the game out of Hawk’s reach in the second half. Defenders Alison Crombie, Victoria Cutforth and Alice Carter thwarted the opposition’s attack, reducing them to a 12-goal tally in the second half, compared to Quarrier and Reidy’s 23 goals. Sue Tune and Holgate outplayed Hawks in the centre court enabling Ely to romp to victory. Reidy was voted player of the match.
