Korfball Ely Vikings II won a thrilling play-off with a ‘golden goal’ to win promotion to the top flight of the Cambridgeshire Korfball League.
Ely beat Phoenix I 10-9 after a golden goal period was needed to separate the two sides, with the scores locked at full time.
Vikings lead early on but Anthony Brolia had to convert a last-gasp penalty following a spirited Pheonix come back, to take the match into extra time. Sue White scored the deciding golden goal.
The victory brings to an end a great season for Vikings who won the first division title for the first time. Earlier on Sunday, Viking III won their play-off against City IV 6-3 to hold on to their division two status.
