THE Halloween Handicap races, at Roswell Lakes on Sunday, brought an end to Ely Sailing Club's season.

The first race saw Gerald and Tanya Copsey finish first of the 12 helms in their National Twelve, with Eric Christan second in his Comet, and Denis Copsey, crewed by Les Booth, third.

After lunch, the fleet increased to 20 boats and Gerald Copsey, crewed by his son Anthony, led the whole race and finished two minutes ahead of Alex Tory in a Solo. Third was Gary Ungless, also in a Solo.

The wind dropped by the start of the final race and only five boats finished.

The course was drastically cut and, after a very slow two-lap race, the winner by more than five minutes was Alex Tory from Greg and Jordan Williams. Third place went to Eric Christan.

Commodore Clare Christan presented Halloween souvenirs to the winners, who counted their best two race scores.

1. Gerald with Tanya/Anthony Copsey - 2 points; 2. Alex Tory - 3 points; 3. Eric Christan - 5 points; 4. Greg and Jordan Williams - 6 points.

Ely Sailing Club's Laying Up Supper and prizegiving will take place in the clubhouse on Saturday, November 11, at 7.30pm.
