A SECOND-HALF performance full of heart and passion earned 10-man Soham a precious point away from home on Tuesday night.
Andy Coleman got Soham off to a dream start in a dramatic first half, by scoring in the second minute, following a goalmouth scramble.
Newmarket equalised, five minutes later, and after a 15-minute period when the Rangers' defence completely switched off, the home side found themselves 3-1 up.
Scott Johnson pulled one back for Soham when his 30-yard screamer flew into the top corner, only for more bad news.
Disaster struck, 15 minutes before the break, when Soham defender Paul Hill received a straight red card for retailiation after being caught by a flailing elbow, but the visitors held on to keep the score at 3-2 at the break.
Soham were magnificent after the break, never tiring, and dominating play, despite being a man down.
The back three of Simon Flanz, Andy Coleman and Scott Johnson were superb, giving the team a platfrom from which to build upon, and Michael Simpson was tireless in midfield.
The equaliser came, five minutes from the end, when Charles Libam chased a lost cause and crossed in for Paul Jones to head home.
The point moves Soham up to fourth in the table.
Soham manager Ian Benjamin said: "I've never seen a team with a man down dominate play in such a way and in the end we ended up searching for the winner."
Soham travel to Woodbridge on Saturday.
