KERSHAW SENIOR DIVISION B

HADDENHAM Rovers gave away two penalties in their home clash with Castle Camps, but still escaped with a share of the spoils.

Kenny Holmes made it 1-1 after Johnny Lee had given away a spot-kick early on, and Will Ludbrooke kept the hosts on level terms with another goal before half-time.

Ed Ideson - on his return to the club - equalised after Castle Camps had taken the lead once again, and Holmes salvaged a 4-4 draw after the visitors had converted their second penalty of the afternoon.

DIVISION 2B

WITCHFORD '96 maintained their promotion drive with a comfortable 5-0 victory at Bluntisham Rangers Reserves.

Aaron Spencer opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Michael Ward had been brought down by the home goalkeeper, and Ally McDonald fired home from 25 yards to make it 2-0 at the break.

Dale Hoey grabbed his first goal for the club after collecting McDonald's pass, and Ward added number four after latching on to a cross from Ross Spencer.

Scott Spencer then wrapped things up in the closing stages, firing into the roof of the net when the ball broke loose in Bluntisham's penalty area.

In the same section, Stretham Hotspurs proved no match for Newmarket White Lion, going down 6-1 away.

DIVISION 3B

IAN Butterworth twice gave Fordham Reserves the lead at Somersham Town Reserves, but his side had to settle for a point.

Butterworth broke the deadlock from a Grant Pearson cross, and made it 2-1 with 10 minutes remaining after nodding home Clive Boucheron's cross.

Somersham were not done for, however, and they deservedly made it 2-2 with a goal in the closing minutes of the game.

DIVISION 4B

MEPAL Sports surrendered their unbeaten league record by virtue of an odd-goal defeat at West Row Gunners Reserves.

Chris Silvain twice levelled in the opening 45 minutes, but the Suffolk side grabbed the only goal of the second half to run out 3-2 winners in the saturated conditions.

Burwell Swifts faced Haddenham Rovers Reserves, and Lee Hardy's four-goal haul helped them to record a crushing 10-3 victory against their local rivals.

Hardy opened the scoring following a defensive mix-up, and Danny Jones made it 2-0 with a 35-yard effort that was the goal of the game for Swifts.

Darren Brodie added a third from Kevin Driver's far-post header, and Ollie Williams made it 4-0 before Hardy rounded the goalkeeper and fired into an empty net.

Hardy completed his hat-trick just before the interval, and Williams scored at the second attempt to make it 7-1 after Rovers had managed to pull a goal back.

Hardy's cross-cum-shot extended Burwell's lead soon afterwards, but Haddenham staged a brief revival to make the score 8-3.

Substitute Rich Barnes scored again for the hosts after latching on to a cross from Alan Nash, and he took the Burwell tally into double figures when putting the final touch to a goalbound shot from Williams.

In the same section, Sutton United Reserves ran out 2-0 winners at Barton Mills Reserves, thanks to a Tristan Frear double, which included a superb left-foot strike.

Sutton were defensively solid, with Sean Bristow and Sean Marriott outstanding in the centre and Lloyd Brown producing some fine saves, but Frear almost completed an unwanted hat-trick when directing a header just wide of his own goal in the second half.

CREAKE CHARITY SHIELD

THIRD ROUND

CUP specialists Littleport Town Reserves are through to the fourth round after a solid victory at Saffron Crocus.

Sam Warner was on target for the second week in succession, and he was joined on the scoresheet by Nathan Bennett as 'Port ran out 2-0 winners.

However, Sutton United are out of the competition despite producing a useful performance in their tie at Huntingdon United RGE.

Colin Coulson was the player on target during Sutton's 2-1 defeat, but he sorely missed strike partner Matthew Keys.

SUNDAY FOOTBALL

THE inclement weather meant that only two East Cambridgeshire sides were in action on Sunday, and both teams suffered cup defeats away from home.

Village Inn went down 5-3 at Babraham in the Second Round of the Cambs FA Millennium Cup, and Wilburton Albion crashed out at the same stage of the Cambs FA Centenary Cup, losing 3-0 at Gamlingay United Sunday.
