SUNDAY FOOTBALL

DIVISION 1A

ELY Park Rangers manager Dale Spring claimed that his side had "one hand on the trophy" after a resounding 6-2 win against championship rivals Arbury.

Stephen Tuck thought he had opened the scoring for Ely when his shot crashed down off the underside of the bar, but David Cornwell was credited with the goal when he made sure on the line.

Chris Lupson stabbed home number two after 20 minutes, but the visitors pulled one back before half-time.

Substitute Brady Stone drove the ball inside the near post from the corner of the six-yard box to restore Ely's two-goal lead, and Cornwell raced clear of the visiting defence to put his side 4-1 in front.

An own goal compounded Arbury's misery before Cornwell claimed his fourth hat-trick in as many Rangers appearances to make it 6-1.

Arbury grabbed a late consolation, but look held in second spot unless Ely somehow manage to shoot themselves in the foot against a lesser team.

DIVISION 2A

ELY Park Rangers Reserves remain three points ahead of Magpies 2001 and boast a far superior goal difference, after hitting six goals without reply at Boathouse Rangers.

Peter Munns broke the deadlock with a 12-yard overhead kick, and Richie Murfitt tapped in number two after good work by Gary Dewsbury.

Goalkeeper Leigh Follen added a third goal from the penalty spot, and Murfitt grabbed his second goal of the game to make the interval score 4-0.

Munns increased Ely's second-half advantage with a close-range header from Erhan Okay's cross, and Dewsbury completed the tally with a weak shot which went underneath the keeper.

DIVISION 4A

LTFC 1906 kept up their pursuit of leaders Wilburton Albion with a comfortable 6-1 win against visiting strugglers Studlands Park.

Gary Murfitt broke the ice after just 20 seconds, and further goals from Luke Butcher and James Kent took the interval lead on to 3-0.

Nathan Bennett made it 4-1 after Studlands had pulled one back, and Butcher then grabbed his second of the game before substitute Rob Wilson had the final word.

Goalkeeper Andy Smart pulled off some fine saves for LTFC in the first half.

SENIOR DIVISION

TRIPLE-S may not be taking things too seriously nowadays, but they took another three points on Sunday - this time at the expense of visiting Drayton Lions.

Lee Moll's headed opener was followed by Wayne Bell's near post effort which was deflected into the roof of the net by a Drayton defender, and Stephen Palmer bundled the ball home at the far post to make the interval score 3-0.

Moll then sealed a 4-0 result with the only goal of the second half from close range.
