ELY Rugby Club are expecting to play in the Eastern Counties First Division next season, after finishing in second place. The Tigers were looking for a big win on Saturday to have an outside chance of winning the Eastern Counties Second Division, but opponents Broadland couldn't raise a team, so Ely took an automatic 15-0 win. Director of Ely Rugby Club Terry Moore said: "Second spot would usually guarantee promotion, but the Rugby Union have changed their mind on this sort of thing before. We've been stung in the past so we are not going to start celebrating until everything is confirmed.
