PREMIER DIVISION

LITTLEPORT Town lost their unbeaten record on Saturday as they went down 2-0 at home to Over Sports.

"We worked really hard," said boss Dave Cullum afterwards. "We shaded the first half without creating too many chances, but in the second half we had just one off-target shot. If you don't shoot, you don't score."

The 'Port manager had discussed with his team the danger of conceding free-kicks against set-piece specialists Over, but at the start of the second period the hosts gave away a succession of free-kicks around the penalty area and the visitors inevitably broke the deadlock from one of them.

'Port conceded a second goal towards the finish, following a decent save from goalkeeper Andy Smart.

He looked to have pushed the ball out of harm's way, but an opposing forward reacted quickest and put it back into the danger zone where a colleague duly obliged by firing home.

Fordham's miserable start to the season continued as they conceded a goal in the third minute of stoppage time to lose their derby encounter with Littleport Town.

Having lost their first match 1-0 at home to Wickhambrook by virtue of conceding in the 85th minute, Fordham were desperate to take something from the clash with their arch rivals.

Unfortunately they once again struggled to create opportunities for themselves, and 'Port goalkeeper Andy Smart finger-tipped round the post the one clear cut chance they created in the second half when the match was still scoreless.

The visitors always looked the team most likely to score, and they almost took the lead when Chris Lupson struck the foot of the post after being put through by Michael Ward.

Nigel Smith was then denied by the 'keeper's feet and it looked as if his side would have to settle for a share of the spoils.

David Cullum junior made one last foray into Fordham territory with time running out however, and his cross was nodded over the goalkeeper by substitute Andrew Francis for a dramatic last-gasp winner.

"We controlled the game for long periods," said 'Port manager Dave Cullum afterwards, adding: "I thought it was a fair result."

Ely City Reserves had their game called off because the Unwin Ground pitch was waterlogged.

SENIOR DIVISION A

SOHAM Town Rangers belatedly opened their Senior Division campaign on Saturday, sharing eight goals with hosts Brampton.

SENIOR DIVISION B

LITTLEPORT Town Reserves continued their unbeaten start with a win at Swavesey Institute, but there were home defeats for both Soham United and Haddenham Rovers.

Soham - fielding nine ex-Youth Team players - played well against an impressive Milton outfit, but somehow found themselves 3-0 down at the interval and that was how it stayed.

"We played really well," said United boss Andy Parker, "and we should have been ahead before they scored."

Haddenham meanwhile crashed 2-0 against Saffron Crocus, and are still without a win this season.

"We haven't really clicked yet," said boss Andy Markwell after his side's second successive defeat.

Littleport meanwhile won 3-1 at Swavesey, with impressive performances from Cavan Bennett, Richard Clews and goalscorer Clive Lee.

Lee has now scored three goals in three games, and he was joined on the scoresheet by veteran Mark Talbot who helped himself to a brace.

Soham United's opening day 5-3 victory at West Row Gunners now looks an even better result after the Suffolk side managed a goalless draw in their second outing at Littleport Town Reserves.

'Port have nevertheless taken a pleasing four points from their opening two fixtures.

Haddenham Rovers can normally be relied upon to score at least once, but they went down 2-0 at home to Bluntisham Rangers in their second outing and although it is early days they need a win soon.
