SOHAM Town Rangers boss Ian Benjamin was celebrating hitting Newmarket Town for six on Tuesday evening.

The resounding 6-1 result was never in doubt after Scott Carter opened Soham's account midway through the first half.

Goals from Charles Libam and Andy Furnell made it 3-1 at the break and Rangers continued the onslaught in the second half.

Libam completed his hat-trick and Furnell grabbed his second to give Rangers their first league win of the season.

Benjamin was also relatively happy with his team's 1-1 draw at Kirkley and Pakefield.

Ian Pledger, Martin McNeil and Darren Jimson all made their debut for Soham and Martin Bromwich played his first competitive game for more than a season.

The home side opened the scoring through Paul Highfield's penalty on 51 minutes but a late goal from Scott Carter gave Soham a share of the points.

Benjamin said: "I didn't think it was going to be our day but we deserved to get something from the game.

"We didn't fire on all cylinders and we allowed them to boss the game in the first half but I was pleased with how we fought back after the break.

"It was a clear penalty for them and I have no argument about that but that was their only chance of the half.

"Our passing let us down at times and our finishing was not up to scratch."

There were no fresh injury worries for Benjamin but he still made changes for the game at Newmarket.

Benjamin said: "Ian Pledger and Martin Bromwich are still making their comeback from injury and they were very tired after Saturday."
