Broadlands I 3 Ely I 6
ELY travelled to Great Yarmouth for their third Eastern Counties league fixture against Broadlands, and fresh from their string of unbeaten results were looking to dominate opponents who always put up a good fight at home.
A very strong cross wind meant that the ball was always going to be hard to handle, and from the outset Broadlands showed they had only one plan - and that was to spoil any chance of a quick flowing rugby. Consequently there were very few opportunities to get the ball wide.
Jamie Russell confidently kicked two penalties however, and when the full time whistle finally went the score was 6-3 to Ely.
Head coach Paul Coulson said afterwards "To win this particular match in these terrible conditions was a true test of our grit and determination, but the guys kept them from ever looking like breaking our line and for that they should be proud.
