Ely II 42 Icons III 25
ELY 2 were on fire at the weekend, producing an outstanding display to defeat Icons by a 17-goal margin.
The shooting combination of Sally Shipley and Janice Quarrier proved unstoppable in converting the fine passing and movement from Sue Everett and Debbie Knott.
At the other end Alison Crombie, Victoria Cutforth and Sue Tune pulled out all the stops with a fantastic display of defending, but it was Everett who won the player-of-the-match award.
Ely III 24 Icons IV 19
The cheers rang out at the final whistle on Saturday as Ely 3 clocked up their first ever win.
They had to dig deep from the start as the young Icons started brightly and finished the first half a goal in front.
The excellent defensive combination of Jo Elkington, Naomi Mercer and Gemma Munns held the visitors at bay in the third quarter however, restricting them to just three goals.
Ely thus began the final quarter with a six-goal lead, with Sara Vail and Karen Carter keeping the attacking play moving which enabled Anita Reidy and Rachel Starling to convert the goals. Reidy - for an excellent and tireless display at Goal Attack - was voted player-of-the-match.
