Creative young people are being encouraged to get their entries in for an art competition, organised by police, by the end of this month.

Sergeant Phil Priestley said: “It’s brilliant to be involved in the competition, but I’m glad that I’m not judging - the standard is amazing.

“The picture from Eve Henderson at Soham Village College gives you an idea of the quality of the art that we’re looking at this year.

“We have had a stop frame video submission from an 11 year old artist and a piece of outstanding needlework from a nine year old contributor.

“The creativity, the ability, the imagination - we’re seeing some incredible stuff.”

East Cambs Police reminded young artists that it’s the last week of entries for ArtReach 2017 and there had been amazing submissions.

Sgt Priestley said: “Pupils from Highfield Academy came down to Ely police station together to submit their entries and it was lovely to meet the children from Class S5 who have entered the supported learning and special needs category.”

The entries will then be considered by five judges in their relevant categories.

All of the shortlisted pieces will be awarded a certificate from Chief Constable Alec Wood at the award ceremony hosted at Kings School, Ely, in April.

The overall group winners will scoop digital art tablets from Huion or a gift bundle from art retailer Tindalls.

The competition is free to enter and although the bar has already been set very high, it is an outstanding opportunity for a local artist to show case their ability and walk away with a superb prize.

The theme of the competition is ‘Change’.

• Get your submissions in to Ely police station by Tuesday February 28.
