AN Ely Tai Chi teacher has invited residents to take part in a free introductory course at the Babylon Gallery on Sunday.

Kim Mahler-Garton, who has been a community education teacher in the district for five years, decided to hold the Tai Chi/ Kqi Jong class to introduce people to the benefits of "soft" martial arts.

"The exercises themselves are gradual and slow movements," she said.

"We look at co-ordination and breathing, and the movements strengthen muscles and bones."

Visitors to Sunday's class will be able to find out how to continue with the discipline, and Mrs Mahler-Garton hopes to launch an outdoor class in Ely in the Spring.

INFO: Places for the class, which runs from 10-11am, are limited to 20. Phone Mrs Mahler-Garton on 01353 661582.
