A FOOTBALL-MAD Stuntney couple have covered their house in the cross of St George in support of England's World Cup bid.

Daniel Pemberton and wife Sandra decided to surprise their son Aaron, 11, who returned from a school trip to France on Friday to find his previously orange Stewart Close home decorated in England's colours.

Chelsea fan Aaron, who admits to some family rivalry with his Tottenham-supporting father, said he has told all of his friends about his new-look house.

"They think it's really cool," he said.

Mr Pemberton, 31, who works in the emergency response unit for a power company, said they had planned to re-decorate the house because "the orange didn't really agree with us".

After painting the outside of the building white, he said it seemed a logical step to finish it off with a red cross.

"We wanted to do it at our last house during the last World Cup but we couldn't," he said.

"The majority of people are impressed with it, but it will come down soon after the World Cup, though - we wouldn't put the neighbours through that!"

However, Mr Pemberton said that if England win the World Cup, he may consider leaving the cross on the house a little longer.

"Either that or I'll paint a World Cup on the house with the word 'winner' underneath," he said.
