Work to increase the number of parking spaces at Littleport railway station will begin in August.
The extra 80 spaces, which have been given the green light from the East Cambridgeshire District Council’s planning team, represent a 200 per cent increase on current parking space.
The asset development committee at East Cambridgeshire District Council have worked alongside local Councillors and plan to open the new facility early in 2018.
Councillor Bill Hunt, chair of the asset development committee said: “These spaces are much needed and are a significant boost for people who want to use Littleport station to get to work. It will also boost local economy and make Littleport and the surrounding area a more attractive place to live.”
David Ambrose-Smith, chair of the community committee and district councillor for Littleport said: “More car parking spaces being available will have a big impact on the area surrounding the station and will mean people don’t have to park at inconvenient and sometimes illegal locations.”
The Littleport station car parking charges will remain the same.
