AN Ely teenager who assaulted his mother's lodger and damaged her front door has been ordered to carry out 80 hours of unpaid community work.

The 17-year-old had been drinking when he turned up at the Sutton property, and was aggressive and angry, Ely youth court was told.

He shoulder-barged the front door, knocking it off its hinges, and then grabbed the lodger around the neck, said prosecutor Sally Hickling.

The teenager told the court he had "lost it" because his girlfriend had a relationship with the lodger, who was almost twice her age.

He had originally been given a referral order for the offence, but because he missed the first meeting with the youth offending panel he was re-sentenced on Thursday, and given the work order instead.
