STRETHAM WI members and guests met in the Parish Rooms for a lively October meeting. A surprise and most welcome visitor was Maureen Lee, on leave from India. It is good to catch up on news with couple of times a year.

The speaker was Mrs Hughes, on Romanian children in distress. It was heart-warming to hear how this charity grew from small beginnings to a thriving enterprise. It aims to provide mentally and physically disabled children with physiotherapy and a secure and loving home background. Vote of thanks given by Win Tunnah.

After the talk, a serious discussion on the future of Stretham WI took place, ending with a positive vote of confidence in the WI movement.

The evening ended happily with refreshments, a raffle of fruit, and a bit of fun with a weird and wonderful vegetable competition, won by Janet's confused runner bean and Ann's over-excited carrot.

Next meeting is the annual meeting on November 14 at 7.15pm in the Parish Rooms, with speaker Yvonne Martin on crystals, plus a bring-and-buy sales table.
