WHEN Jocie Moss' partner was dissatisfied with the dart board provided at a pub match she decided to take his car and fetch another board from home - but on the way back she hit another car, writing it off.

Then cool as a cucumber, Moss drove away from the crash scene, dumped the car on farmland, and walked back to the Anchor in Little Downham with the new board as if nothing had happened.

But she had left the car's bumper behind, and police traced the car back to her partner, Ely magistrates were told on Thursday. He later claimed the Vauxhall Vectra had been stolen.

Moss had earlier admitted aggravated vehicle taking, driving without insurance or a licence, failing to stop after the accident and failing to report the accident.

Last month magistrates had warned that 25-year-old Moss, of Brook Grove, Ely, could be jailed for the offences. But after reading a report from the probation service they ordered her to carry out 150 hours community work, banned her from driving for one year and told her to pay £20 costs.

"This was a serious incident, you knowingly took the car and drove some distance, knowing you had no insurance and no permission to drive," said presiding magistrate Jane Lewin-Smith.

"You had an accident and failed to stop and failed to report, and showed no regard to people who might have been injured."

Prosecuting, Sally Rose said the accident happened at the junction of the A10 and West Fen Road in Ely on January 24. The Nissan Micra hit by Moss had spun off the road, and its owners had lost around £1,500 through he accident.

"She accepts she should not have been driving," said Jacqui Baldwin, mitigating. "When she returned to the pub it was not her decision to say the car had been taken, it was her partner's decision.
