Police said a woman driver was “incredibly lucky” to escape injury yesterday after her Vauxhall Corsa left the road and overturned in a ditch.

The crash happened along the Grunty Fen Road, Witchford, and police arrived at the scene after being called by paramedics.

A police spokesman said the woman driver was being looked after by the ambulance service when they arrived.

“Her Vauxhall Corsa had left the highway and was on its roof in the adjacent ditch,” said the spokesman.

“The vehicle will be written off. This image will give an idea of how nasty the accident was.

“The driver was incredibly lucky to make her own way out of the vehicle with no worse that bruising caused by her seatbelt.”

The spokesman added: “We are certain that if she had not been wearing her seatbelt we would probably have been dealing with another very tragic incident.”

PC Dave Hall said: “The lady was very shaken. The undulation of the road appears to have played a part in the vehicle leaving the highway.

“I would advise drivers to reduce speed and take care with the prevailing conditions”

No other vehicle was involved in the accident.
