Witchford is preparing itself for ‘the Wiz’ – and one of the biggest challenges to date for the Witchford Amateur Dramatic Society (WADS).
Director and chairman of WADS Lucy Short said: “The Wiz’ is a fun and vibrant show filled with uplifting music and it has been a pleasure to direct.
“We have so many talented people in the cast and I am proud to be working with them all.”
She said: “This is definitely the biggest production challenge WADS has taken on due to the complexity and volume of musical numbers, but also the most rewarding for all involved.
“Our musical directors Naomi D’Cunha and Jonathan Carter and our choreographer Sara Ford of Ely-based dance school 4th Dimension have yet again worked wonders with our cast of over 50 kids and 25 adults, some of whom have little or no experience.”
She said the aim was to “push ourselves to see how far we can develop WADS and we have certainly come a long way with this show.”
Once again, the commitment and enthusiasm of the WADS cast and crew has amazed the production team. Lucy said: “There are WADS members who put aside their personal life and family commitments for a several months every year to ensure that our community has something to work towards and be proud of.
“I am certain that no-one gets involved with our shows solely for the performance we put on at the end of it. It really is teamwork and I am very proud of that.”
WADS aims to continue offering children and adults the opportunity to get involved, learn new skills, and meet new people.
Like many groups they face an ongoing battle to raise funds to put our shows on (this one will cost in the region of £11,000 to get to production) and are extremely appreciative of our fantastic committee who work tirelessly to raise funds.
They say they are also lucky enough to be supported by many local businesses through sponsorship and donations.
The performances take place at Witchford Village College Thursday 1st, Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd February at 7.30pm, with a matinee performance on Saturday 3rd Feb at 2.00pm.
