A 20-month driving ban was imposed on Witchford man Kevin Bidwell, after he admitted driving with an alcohol reading more than twice the legal limit.

Police stopped Bidwell in the early hours of September 20 because they noticed his car was damaged at the front.

Forty-four-year-old Bidwell smelled of alcohol, and gave a breath test reading of 85 mcgs of alcohol in 100 mls of breath - when the legal limit is 35 mcgs.

Bidwell, of Main Street, Witchford, had driven to a party at the village sports and social club because he was running late, but had intended to walk home, solicitor Michael Judkins told Ely magistrates.

"He had consumed alcohol and his judgement was impaired. He could have easily walked, it is regrettable he did not do so," added Mr Judkins.

Bidwell was fined £260 with costs and a surcharge totalling another £90.
