A parish council is set to take ownership of 27 streetlights in its village threatened with being extinguished under plans to cut costs by Cambridgeshire County Council.
The lights were due to be removed from streets around Witchford as part of the county council’s upgrading programme earlier this year.
But the 27 lights will now be transferred to the parish council and an agreement is set to be signed shortly. At its recent meeting Witchford parish Council also noted plans by the county to increase its charge for administrating the annual street lighting energy charge. The parish council benefits from bulk prices by buying its energy via the authority, but it will carry out a review to ensure it is getting best value.
A site meeting with Balfour Beatty is being requested to discuss a streetlight that was relocated at The Warren during the recent upgrade.
