A Witchford-based automation consultancy is hoping to slash the time taken during the product packaging process by developing a new high-speed system which could see production increase by 150 per cent.

GB Innomech, which operates out of the Innovation Centre on Common Road, has designed the new system to automate the packaging of components used within fuel injectors.

The new system means that the products will no longer need to be manually handled as they are transferred into trays ready for shipment, and the firm is expecting to see production rates soar following its installation.

SG Technologies, which produces the components, will benefit from the new system and commercial director, Stuart Hutcheon, said: “Innomech has developed the ideal system to automate a potentially rate-limiting product packaging process and to provide us with increased flexibility and capacity to meet fast-growing and changing customer demands.

“The system also removes any risk of potential damage to products through manual handling which is critical in our drive towards zero defect manufacturing and even greater process efficiencies.”
