Witchford-based Nexus Intelligent Engineering (Nexus IE) has designed and developed an innovative piece of test equipment that will help medical device manufacturers to develop catheters and guidewires.
The devices are used for a range of medical and surgical procedures such as widening blocked coronary and other arteries or to give patients epidural anaesthetic injections.
A spokesman said: “The new BIOFriC 1000 system has been designed for BioInteractions, one of the world’s top manufacturers of medical device coatings, to measure the ‘slipperiness’ of coated catheters and to determine the effectiveness and durability of specific coating solutions.”
The new BIOFriC 1000 test system – which will be launched to the worldwide medical device community at MD&M West in Anaheim, California (February 6-8 2018) – has been designed to handle catheter lengths of up to 500mm and at any diameter up to 20mm.
Nexus IE is based at The Innovation Centre, next to Sedgeway Business Park in Witchford.
