Nominations are now closed for the Ely Hero Awards and preparations are now in hand for the first ever presentation evening at The Maltings.

Attendance is by invitation only and is largely for those who are short-listed for an award, the sponsors and the judges.

But it promises to be a special night, celebrating the very best of our community, and we are offering one lucky reader the chance to win a pair of tickets to be there.

Forget Charley and the Chocolate Factory’s ‘golden ticket’ we have our very own Ely Hero Award’s ‘golden tickets’ up for grabs for this bery special evening.

It’s a smart/formal event so a chance to get dolled up for the evening, enjoy a complimentary glass of bubbly, dinner and be part of a very exciting event to reward our community heroes.

The host for the evening is Councillor Richard Hobbs, Mayor of Ely who will be officiating the presentations along with the sponsors.

To enter the draw for these ‘money can’t buy’ tickets, email your name to naomi@metrorodcambridge.co.uk with answer the following question - giving your answer as a, b or c by Wednesday June 14 - you will need to use your sleuthing skills and visit MetroRod’s website -the awards’ main sponsor and organiser - find the answer: www.metrorod.co.uk.

The winner will be chosen at random and the judge’s decision is final

Ely Hero Awards were officially launched by MetroRod Cambridge in association with The Ely Standard at the beginning of April and the search began for our ‘Heroes’ of Ely and the surrounding villages. Local businesses kindly sponsored categories, they are: The Elyi Magazine, CHS Group, Grovemere Property, Puggles and Seahorses Swim Schools, Ward Gethin Archer, Red Shoes Accounting, Thor Labs and Life Fitness. Infiniti Graphics created the log and website and Sadie Finch VA collated the nominations.

Nominations flew in and the judges had the incredibly difficult task of finalising the shortlist of three finalists.
