A Cambridgeshire college has opened their doors to staff and students from Bozen in Italy and they have an ‘action packed week of fun and friendship planned’.

The Sozialwissenschaftliches Gymnasium students touched down on Sunday (June 3) and bought gifts for the Ely College staff and students.

In February, Ely College students visited Bozen and northern Italy, including the Venice Carnival.

A spokesman for Ely College said: “Huge thank you to Mayor Rouse for his visit and warm welcome on their morning in college. It’s fantastic for our German exchange partners to hear about Ely and learn about the history and landscape of our fair city.”

The German students have been in Ely for less than a week and have already taken a tour of the Oliver Cromwell House, where they learned about English food and got to try on Civil War helmets.

The spokesman added: “Throughout the programme [Ely] students have had the opportunity to increase their knowledge and appreciation of the German language and culture, as well as becoming a lot more independent as for some of them, this is the first time they go abroad without their parents.

“We hope our exchange students enjoy their time here. We take great pride in our Exchange programme and enjoy enabling students to put their language learning into a real-life context.”
