The former King’s Ely pupil who began his career at Bury in 2008 before signing for Charlton Athletic in 2011 will play against the Netherlands and Italy.

He was sent out on loan half-a-dozen times during his five-year spell in London, most notably to Cambridge United in 2013 and League One side Bury in 2015. He joined Burnley last summer.

In October 2017, Pope signed a new contact to keep him at Burnley until June 2020.

“An incredible achievement, well done.”

Needham Market Football Club tweeted: “Congratulations to former Bury Town Football Club player Nick Pope who has just received his first call up to the England National Team having put in many impressive performances for @BurnleyOfficial.

“At Bury Town he played under Richard Wilkins, who is the current Needham manager.”
