STRETHAM WI members reassembled for their September meeting and it was great to see friends again after the holidays. Joy Smith welcomed everyone and business was hurried through so that we could listen to our speaker, Dr Tudor of the Jubilee Sailing Trust. His talk featured slides and was very interesting. We saw tall-masted sailing ships, crewed by disabled wheelchair users, backed up by able bodied amateurs as well as professional seamen. A vote of thanks was given by Win Tunnah.

After refreshments, members voted for the best nautical souvenir, which was won by Jean Adamson who brought in her grandfather's diary, kept while he was on board HMS Rover 1876-1879. The evening ended with a grand raffle and a fun quiz.

Our next meeting is on October 10 and will include speaker A Hughes, who will talk about Romanian orphans. Competition is a weird and wonderful vegetable or fruit. On Tuesday, October 26, for all members, there is a group meeting in the Parish Rooms, speaker will be Mike Petty on the Second World War. Also tea for Wisbech WI at 4pm on Thursday, September 28 in the Parish Rooms.
