MONEY has become available for community services in Littleport.

An eight-point wish list was drawn up at a Littleport Parish Council meeting on Monday night and handed to Lucie Tunnell, planning officer for East Cambridgeshire District Council.

The list will be received by the district council's planning department within the next two weeks for consideration.

The list includes:

# A preference for developers to use open space within developments rather than open areas.

# More play equipment.

# Improving and extending public rights of way.

# A new cemetery because, it is predicted, that in three or four years there will be no space left in the present one.

# A conservation or woodland area.

# A skate park or BMX track near the centre of the village.

# Money to spend on a youth facilities.

# Village enhancements, including improvements to public buildings and facilities.

Reporter ADAM LAZZARI went out in Littleport to ask people how they would like the money spent.

Stanley Deller, 54, from Littleport.

"The village desperately needs something for the teenagers and young adults.

"They are left stuck hanging around the streets because there is absolutely nothing for them to do because there are not enough facilities in place."

Amanda Tabor, 30, from Littleport.

"Littleport is a small community and I find that I have most things that I need.

"There are plenty of groups for toddlers and young children, but there is not much at all for children aged 10 and upwards.

"It would be a good start to get a better park in the village."

Susan Malkin, 61, from Littleport.

"They are already doing a lot to the village hall, so I'd like to see a decent swimming pool. There used to be one years ago and I thought that was going to be replaced.

"I would have said a youth centre, but Phil Malkin, who is a distant cousin of mine, has done a wonderful job of setting one up himself. He's put in so much of his time, money and effort."

Brian Bamber, 67, from Littleport.

"I'm not sure really. It's a bit of a shame that there's not much of a business community and people that live here just use the Co-op and go elsewhere to shop and buy most other things, so there should be more shops in the centre."

Bernie Nicholas, 70, from Litttleport.

"I'd like to see a swimming pool and more shops. We've got a good leisure centre in the village, but I hear they are having a lot of financial problems, so I think the parish council should give that the support that it needs.
