A motorcyclist who died in a road crash on his way home was looking forward to life with a new partner and celebrating promotion at work, his family said.

Michael and Val Dewing, whose son Shaun Dewing, 44, died on October 4, said: 'Shaun was the light of our lives. He was always by our side in the bad times, especially when his mum was in hospital or his dad needed a hand, and also when any of our pets were ill. He would be there; he was a son in a million, we are so proud of him.'

Mr Dewing, from Craske Lane, Terrington St Clement, near King's Lynn, had just met a new partner, Tracey and been promoted to design co-ordinator manager at Carters Design in Saddle Bow, where he had worked for 20 years.

He was travelling home when his bike left the road and hit a house in High Road, Saddle Bow, at about 5.40pm.

The Norfolk Accident Rescue Services attended the crash and the team tried for more than two hours to save Mr Dewing.

The family asked for donations at Mintlyn crematorium, near Lynn, for NARS, which provides volunteer doctors and paramedics at the scene of accidents to help with those suffering serious injuries.

Mr Dewing was described at the funeral service as 'a perfectionist, a perfect gentleman with a great sense of humour'.

Born in King's Lynn, he lived in Gayton for a short time, and then the family moved to Sutton Bridge, before settling in Terrington St Clement. Aged 13, he attended the new high school in the village, where his brother Wayne was also a pupil.

Good at creating and drawing cartoons he won the East of England Show (Youth) competition for a health and safety poster.

The family said: 'Michael, Val, Wayne and Debra would like to say a heartfelt thank you for all the kindness and support people have shown at this sad and difficult time, also for the cards and messages received which have given us great comfort.'
