A new weekly Sunday market is launching in Ely, the district council has announced.

The first event will take place on Easter Sunday, with a weekly event carrying on throughout the year thereafter.

The market, which will run from 10am-4pm, will bring together the best of the former flower, food and craft market along with a mix of stalls, family entertainment and attractions.

Councillor Hamish Ross, from East Cambridgeshire District Council, said: “The monthly flower, food and craft market was such a success that we felt the demand was there from both shoppers and traders to add a weekly Sunday market to our calendar. “By expanding the markets in Ely, the council is delivering the services which people have asked for and need. Adding another day to the market calendar will give local traders the chance to sell their produce and we hope it will create the footfall to encourage other shops and stores in Ely to open.

“Our aim is to help Ely and East Cambridgeshire grow and we will look at introducing increasingly innovative ways of doing this. With plenty to see and do, we hope to see plenty of people at Market on Easter Sunday and the Bank Holiday Monday.”
