Wayne Prigg is to cycle 100 miles to raise money for a charity that has helped his eight-year-old niece who is from Ely.

He hopes to raise £1,000 for the children’s charity Living With Reflux (LWR) as Maisie Prigg, eight, suffers from reflux disease.

Wayne, who will take part in the 2017 Prudential RideLondon100 on Sunday July 30, said: “This is personal for me as Maisie suffers from the disease.

“It’s for a good cause so biking 100 miles whilst raising as much as I can for the charity is the least I can do. Please donate whatever you can as every little bit helps.”

Maisie’s family have been supporters of Living with Reflux for some time as she has suffered from reflux since birth.

Now, at the age of eight, it is secondary to being diagnosed as having a functional gastrointestinal disorder which is a rare combination of conditions.

She is on long-term medication but still suffers with symptoms that impact on normal daily life, including missing school and after school activities, not enjoying family days out or playing with friends.

Her parents say that the charity has helped in many ways, but especially by being able to communicate with other parents that are also suffering.

Maisie’s mum said: “You realise that you are not alone and can support each other, anytime day or night.”

Tracey Guilliatt-Parks, chairman of Living with Reflux, said: “We’d like to thank Wayne Prigg for generously giving his time to raise money for Living with Reflux and in helping us to raise awareness of reflux and continue to provide support to families experiencing this on a day to day basis.”
