A 44-year-old woman who received minor injuries after a car was hit by a train on a level crossing has been released under investigation.

The woman was arrested by British Transport Police on suspicion of causing an unlawful act with intent to endanger safety as a result of the crash which happened on March 29 near Waterbeach station.

She was also arrested for failure to provide a specimen before being released on bail until April 26.

The collision caused disruption on services between Cambridge and Ely.

Magpas Air Ambulance was called to the scene but later reported the car driver had not suffered “any life threatening injuries”.

A Magpas spokesman said: “Our enhanced medical team worked alongside an East of England Ambulance Service paramedic crew to assess a patient who fortunately hadn’t suffered any life-threatening injuries.

“The patient was then taken in a land ambulance to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in a stable condition.”

A Greater Anglia spokesman said the train involved belonged to Great Northern. The train driver was unhurt.
