CAMPAIGNER Ed Mullenger staged a successful snorkel swim from Ely to Cambridge, on Friday, to mark World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

Ed, of High Barns, Ely, entered the water at 9am outside The Maltings and snorkelled against the current before arriving at Chesterton footbridge in Cambridge at 3.20pm cheered by a crowd of supporters.

He took part in the 17-mile swim to raise awareness of abuse of the elderly and raise money for the charity Action on Elder Abuse.

Officers sworn in

FORMER Cambridgeshire police enquiry officer Lucy Ravenhill, from Ely, is one of 18 new police officers sworn in recent ceremony.

The new recruits were given their warrant cards by Assistant Chief Constable John Feavyour and magistrate and Cambridgeshire Police Authority chairman Michael Williamson at a ceremony at police headquarters in Huntingdon.
