The City Choir of Washington is coming to Ely this Sunday.

Performing a lunchtime concert on July 8, the choir will perform Tavener’s ‘Tolstoy Creed’ on their debut tour of the UK.

The tour combines American, English and French choral works, from the 19th Century until today.

‘Tolstoy Creed’ will be performed alongside Sir John Tavener’s piece ‘The Lamb’, as well as Eric Whitacre’s ‘The Chelsea Carol’ and Gabriel Fauré’s ‘Requiem in D Minor’.

The choir’s roster will consist of 50 professional, volunteer singers, all hailing from the greater Washington (D.C.) area.

They will be under the direction of Grammy award-winning Robert Shafer, who celebrates 50 years as a choral conductor and will serve his 26th international tour with the choir.

The Ely Cathedral concert starts at 1.10pm and admission is free. There will also be a retiring collection.

Email box.office@elycathedral.org or visit www.elycathedral.org for more information.

Their tour also visits Goucester Cathedral (July 5), Keble College Chapel in Oxford (July 7) and Temple Church, London (July 11).
