MEMBERS of the Littleport branch of the Royal British Legion joined the wider community in marking Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday over the weekend.

A short service at the town's memorial in Parsons Lane on Saturday was followed by a memorial service at the memorial to Soham rail disaster hero Jim Nightall at the library, where he is commemorated with a plaque.

Sunday saw a march of legion members from Littleport Ex-serviceman's Club to the war memorial, before a service of remembrance at St George's Church.

"Everything went well and the church was packed on Sunday morning," said Royal British Legion branch secretary Ron Bidwell.

"We had more people than ever before."

A band concert and a short service of remembrance at Littleport Leisure Centre in the evening concluded the weekend.

Thursday's Ely Standard will feature pictures from services across the district.
