A group of hardy walkers braved heavy rain to take part in the annual Winter Wildlife Walk organised by the Ely branch of the Wildlife Trust on Saturday.
Their route took them through Cherry Hill Park and Jubilee Gardens to the River Great Ouse and Roswell Pits.
Helen Moore, from the Ely branch, said: “The group were rewarded with excellent views of a grey wagtail on the railway bridge and close by a kingfisher sitting in a bush overhanging the river.
“Four male bullfinches also made an appearance bringing the total number of bird species seen by the group in the morning to 36.”
The group’s next event is an illustrated talk by Terry Moore on British Wild Orchids, taking place on Friday, January 16, at 7.45pm in the Vernon Cross Room at Ely Museum.
The talk will focus on those orchids which can be seen on day trips from Ely. Admission is £2.50 and refreshments 50p. All are welcome.
The Wildlife Trust has two nature reserves near Ely - Chettisham Meadow and part of Roswell Pits.
The Ely branch help the Wildlife Trust reserve staff with maintenance of these areas. If you would like to get involved with physical work on nature reserves such as cutting back overgrown vegetation then come along to the talk or contact Helen or Terry on 01353 664745.
