Former Wales, Celtic, West Ham and Arsenal striker John Hartson was the guest speaker as the Witchford Colts held their second Sportsman Dinner.

Hartson, who scored over 200 goals during his professional career, spoke about his time playing at the top level and how he battled brain cancer in 2009.

Also at the dinner was former Ipswich Town, Rangers and England captain Terry Butcher, who told guests about his days under Sir Bobby Robson and Diego Maradona’s goal, dubbed ‘goal of the century’ at the 1986 World Cup.

The evening raised an impressive sum of just under £10,000, which was donated to the East Anglia Children’s Hospices (EACH) and the club’s youth sides.

A spokesman said: “A massive thank you must go out to all those that attended the event and supported with items for the raffle and auction.”
