THE village's sixth Feast has just come to an end. It was particularly pleasing to see the new events well-supported including the cycle treasure hunt, feast bingo, badminton, teddy bears' picnic and children's sports and the Egyptian night. Many of the more established events also proved more popular. As always Party in the Park, with the spectacular firework finale, was the highlight of the week. It attracted the biggest crowd ever of more than 1,100 villagers. The new ticketing arrangements seemed to work well. The week finished with over 200 people enjoying a rousing Last Night of the Proms, Sutton style, with the Littleport Band in St Andrew's Church. With money still coming in and bills being paid, we hope to provide details of the total monies later. Two charities have benefited from events held in Feast Week - £600 has already been donated to Milton Hospice and the sponsored cycle ride raised in the region of £1,000 for the NSPCC. The committee is very pleased with the new village notice board which has now been installed outside Sphere and which we hope all village organisations will use. The Feast committee AGM will be held in the school community room at 8pm on Monday, September 25 - all are welcome.

Conservation news

ALL the events held during June and July were a great success, especially the pond dipping. It was great to have so many Brownies turn up and everyone found something interesting to look at. About 20 different minibeasts were found. Alan's Dawn till Dancing event at the Gault Hole recorded 50 different birds seen, including a buzzard which has not been seen here before at other events. There will be no meeting during August, so the next talk will be on Tuesday, September 19, by Cameron Hawke Smith, curator of Cambridge Folk Museum. He will be talking about the work of the museum at the Pavilion, starting at 8pm. On Tuesday, October 17, Lee Marshall, warden at the Welney Wildlife Trust, will be giving a talk. This will hopefully be followed by a visit to the reserve in January or February. The AGM will be on Tuesday, November 11. People can also come along to working parties on Saturday, October 7, and Saturday, November 11 as these are the days we have a major clear-up of the old churchyard - many hands are needed for this.
