AN Ely residents' group is celebrating after the county council threw out an application to build 21 homes.
People from more than 20 households met last month at the Ely Beet Club to oppose the demolition of a bungalow in Lynn Road, and the construction of the new dwellings in its place.
Spokesman for the group Laurence Tisi said: "We opposed the development because of the traffic problems it would cause.
"There have been, thankfully, very few injuries, but we have put together a list of 21 damaged cars at that exact point in the road since 1999.
"Another issue was that the new development was so dense that children wouldn't have been able to play there.
"They would have had to cross the road for a play area."
Dr Tisi, who runs a biotech company in Cambridge, said the county council had taken its concerns seriously and made the right decision in turning down the development.
He said Ely City Council had been extremely supportive of the group.
