To celebrate their 170th anniversary children and staff at Littleport Community Primary School took part in a Victorian Day.
Katherine Swindells, history leader, said: “The children all took part in different activities that gave them a sense of how it would have been like if they were at school in the Victorian times.
“Some recited poems and prayers and some recited the times tables. Children used slates and some copied writing into a copy book.
“They played Victorian games such as hopscotch, ball and cup, marbles and hoop and stick. The children went to an assembly led by the deputy head teacher where they sang ‘All Things Bright and Beautiful’ and took part in Victorian exercise drills.
“Some teachers gave their pupils a Victorian name for the day, and children learned that they are lucky to even be in school, as if they weren’t in school they were in the horrible, dangerous factories earning money for their families.
“The children all really joined in with the spirit of the day and enjoyed taking part in the role play with the staff. We ended the day with a lovely slice of Victoria sponge cake.”
