RETIRED pharmacist Valerie Kennett has received a BA Honours degree in humanities, which was recognised in a ceremony at Ely Cathedral last week.

Valerie, 66, from Littleport, retired in October 2000 took up study with the Open University in January 2003.

"I needed to keep my brain active so I decided to do a Bachelor of Arts degree as a complete contrast to pharmacy - something which enabled me to use my imagination rather than concentrating on facts and figures," she said.

"My target was to get a BA (Hons) by the time I was 70 - I am only 66 so am now aiming at a MA in Art History by the same date.
