Diesel on the road caused mayhem on the A142 in Ely this morning, with accidents and delays reported at several locations.

Police were called to Station Road at about 7.15am to reports of a collision and arrived to find a large amount of diesel on the carriageway.

Nobody was injured in the collision- which police say involved five cars - but highways officials reduced the traffic to one lane while recovery crews work to clear the vehicles and the spilled diesel.

And, at 8.15am police were called to a second incident at the A142 roundabout near Tesco in which a number of vehicles had left the road because of leaked diesel.

Motorists were advised to take care and avoid the area if possible while crews worked to clear the roads. There were delays on the A10 at Witchford as a result of the incident but highways officials had re-opened both lanes to traffic and cleared the spillage by 9.15am.
