A major blaze involving flammable gas cylinders has been extinguished.
Two crews from Cambridge, one crew from Burwell and one crew from Newmarket, in Suffolk, were called to reports of a shed fire in Beechwood Avenue, Bottisham, at about 9am this morning.
A fire had broken out in a shed measuring 15m by 15m used as an outbuilding and workshop.
The building contained cylinders and nearby homes were evacuated following reports of an explosion.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are tackling the fire using hydrants, hose reels and jets.
Extra support from Newmarket and Yaxley was called before firefighters finally managed to get the blaze under control, shortly before 1pm.
Police were also called to attend the scene.
The East of England Ambulance Service said it sent a hazardous area response team to the incident as a precaution, while paramedics dealt with three casualties. Their injuries were described as “not serious”.
A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Preliminary fire investigations have concluded the most likely cause of the fire is accidental, by electrical.”
