The death of a man from Littleport whose body was discovered in the early hours of Wednesday morning is not being treated as suspicious – police confirmed this afternoon.
A post mortem examination carried out on Friday found no signs of foul play and the death will now be dealt with by the coroner for North and East Cambridgeshire.
A spokesman for Cambridgeshire police said that a number of people had been spoken to in connection with the death of the man – identified locally as James Harrison - but that no further action would be taken.
The spokesman said: “Following a post mortem the death is not being treated as suspicious and will be passed to the coroner.”
The investigation began at 5am on Wednesday after a body was discovered in Ponts Hill, near Littleport fire station.
Forensic teams spent Thursday combing grassed areas surrounding Littleport fire station, with half a dozen officers equipped with tools poring over grass verges and searching bins.
The cordon around Ponts Hill remained in place throughout Thursday and was extended to where Ponts Hill joins Wellington Street in one direction and Camel Road in the other.
