Tyres torched in arson attack

Arsonists set fire to a pile of tyres in Witcham Toll last night (Monday).

Firefighters from Sutton and Cottenham were called to reports of fire off the A1421 shortly after 10.30pm.

A large pile made up of about 200 tyres was on fire. Firefighters used hose reels to extinguish it by 11.55pm and continued to turn the material over and dampen it down.

Crews returned to their stations by 1.10am.

The cause of the fire was deliberate. Anyone with information should contact the police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
